On October 15th, the LostToClimate research team had the privilege of participating in the “Paths to a Sustainable Arctic” kick-off event in Reykjavík, hosted at the Nordic House. This inspiring gathering brought together nine Nordic-Canadian research projects, each dedicated to addressing the urgent challenges facing Arctic communities in the age of climate change.

We are deeply thankful to NordForsk and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (Canada) for facilitating this space for collaboration, reflection, and knowledge exchange. The event offered a rich program—from youth perspectives and Indigenous insights to interdisciplinary project presentations and working groups focused on actionable impact.

It was an honor to present our project, LostToClimate – Addressing Unavoidable Non-Economic Losses to Climate-Induced Events for Communities in the Arctic, alongside other visionary initiatives such as ARCHAIC, SustainME, FROST, SPICIES, and more.

The discussions on integrating Indigenous perspectives, balancing scientific rigor with local relevance, and fostering sustainable development were especially meaningful. We left Reykjavík energized, connected, and ready to move forward with renewed purpose.

💬 Let’s keep the momentum going. Collaboration is key to creating lasting Arctic value—scientifically, socially, and ethically.
