We would like to introduce the partners involved in the LostToClimate Research Project. The 1st partner to be presented is the University of Bergen (UiB).
📍 With over 20,000 students and 4,200 faculty and staff, the University of Bergen (UiB) is a leading Norwegian research university, internationally recognised for its academic excellence and interdisciplinary approach. UiB’s priority areas are (i) oceans, (ii) climate and energy transitions, and (iii) global challenges, including health, migration and inequality.
🔋 Established in 2017, the Centre for Climate and Energy Transformation (CET) is an interdisciplinary hub within UiB’s Faculty of Social Sciences. CET aims to produce actionable knowledge to support rapid, just, and deep societal transformation in response to climate change. For most of its research, CET collaborates with both local and national governments in Norway and beyond to produce transdisciplinary outputs that have both scientific and societal impacts.
🤝 Relevance to the LostToClimate Research Project
CET’s expertise and modus operandi aligns strongly with LostToClimate’s objective to explore the trade-offs between adaptation and non-economic loss and damage. In terms of expertise, Lost to Climate will capitalise on current and past research by CET staff on non-economic loss and damage. Methodologically, LostToClimate will benefit from CET’s experience with transdisciplinary research.
The UiB team consists of Daniel Puig and Håvard Haarstad.
👤 Daniel Puig – Researcher Profile
Daniel Puig is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Bergen, affiliated with CET through the university’s Department of Geography. His current work focuses on the limits to climate change adaptation and the concept of non-economic loss and damage. With over 15 years of experience in climate change adaptation, Daniel brings a rich interdisciplinary background that spans public policy, governance, and human geography. He holds a PhD in climate change governance. His recent publications explore themes central to LostToClimate, including the loss of intangible cultural heritage, possible responses to non-economic loss and damage, and conceptual frameworks for understanding climate change-induced loss and damage. Daniel has pioneered work on the trade-offs between adaptation and non-economic loss and damage, with a focus on cryospheric regions.
👤 Håvard Haarstad – Researcher Profile
Håvard Haarstad is a professor at the University of Bergen, affiliated with CET through the Department of Geography. He is a leading voice in promoting social change toward sustainability in the context of climate change.
